Tell Clint McCance His Stance Is Uncceptable

Trigger Warning: Discusses Suicide, Anti-Gay Slurs, Religious Homophobia, Being Disowned by Family, “Sin,” AIDS

Would you want your school system telling your child they deserve(d) to die?

Well, that’s exactly what Clint McCance (Arkansas School Board Member) is saying about gay children (this was his Facebook* status):

“Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers committed suicide. The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed therselves because of their sin. REALLY PEOPLE.”

McCance is referencing October 20, 2010, where many people wore purple to honor suicide victims of homophobia.  (Click here to read about why I wore purple.)

Draw the line between freedom of speech and hate speech, harassment, and oppressive abusive of power!  We CANNOT afford to leave this unaddressed, to let him get away with such undeniable hate.

If you’re out there reading McCance’s words and listening to them, taking them to heart, please stop.  There are people out there full of hate, but there are also people full of love.  PLEASE look into the It Gets Better Project as well as other resources!  You are loved.
